Learn the basics of Kotoro in one guide: installation, moving your cat, right-click chat, and sharing page context.

Kotoro is not a cat who stays inside a separate app window. This small companion walks, rests, and chats with you right on the Chrome pages you already use. Here is a simple path through the first things to try after installation.

What this article covers

  1. 01How to install Kotoro in Chrome
  2. 02How to move your cat around a web page
  3. 03How to start a conversation with a right-click
  4. 04What to know before sharing page content in a chat

1. Install Kotoro in Chrome

Kotoro is a desktop Chrome extension. Open its Chrome Web Store page, choose the install button, and follow the prompts to sign in and complete the initial setup.

Do not worry if the cat does not appear immediately. Extensions cannot run on some screens, including the Chrome Web Store and the new tab page. Open or refresh a regular website and Kotoro should be there.

2. Move the cat where you want

Drag the cat to any comfortable place on the page. If you are reading, move Kotoro toward an edge that does not cover the article. If you are watching a video, place the cat just outside the player.

Your cat's position and size are stored in the browser, so familiar settings can carry across pages. On sites with very different layouts, Kotoro may adjust its position while looking for new edges and floors.

3. Start a conversation with a right-click

To talk to Kotoro, right-click the cat. A small chat window will open, and you can type naturally as you would in any conversation.

Try something easy at first:

  • “Say something that will help me focus today.”
  • “Remind me to stretch in 30 minutes.”
  • “Explain what I am reading in simple terms.”

When you are done, close the window and continue browsing. Kotoro will spend time on the page and wait until you want to talk again.

4. Share page content only when you choose

If you want to ask about the article or screen you are viewing, you can explicitly choose to include page content in the conversation. Only then may the page information needed for the answer be used.

Simply displaying, moving, or resizing the cat does not send the entire page to the server. On pages containing sensitive personal information, check what may be included before you share page content.

5. Learn at your own pace

You do not need to use every Kotoro feature on the first day. Leave your cat near the edge of the screen and say a few words whenever you feel like it. Later, you can try reminders or ask questions about the current page.

The Kotoro usage guide also covers each screen and what to check when something goes wrong.
